We hope you all had a wonderful Labor Day weekend! We spent
our time with 1000 young adults from the DFW area at the Watermark Community Church
retreat called LAUNCH. It was so nice to get out of the city and spend time in
the midst of other believers running toward the same goal. We agreed that the
best part was fellowship- getting to know other young adults, sharing our
stories, our struggles and living in authenticity amongst one another. We could
write so much more about this weekend but today we wanted to focus on the week
that follows a holiday weekend.
It's tough coming back to work after a weekend, especially
when it's an extended holiday weekend. It's Tuesday but it feels like Monday
and even though it's technically a short week, it always ends up feeling
longer. We have a tendency to dwell on the negative aspects associated with
coming "back to reality" but instead of focusing on what a bummer it
is to not be laying out by the pool, let's challenge each other to "take
every thought captive to obey Christ" (2 Corinthians 10:5). No matter what
your day looks like, whether you’re sitting at a desk or busy with errands, "work
heartily, as for the Lord and not for men" (Colossians 3:23).
One way we like to do this is to write ourselves notes and
post them in places we look at often, like a mirror at home or on your office
computer. Whenever you feel a negative thought coming on, call it out for the
lie it is and replace that lie with truth from the word of God. We hope this
encourages you and would love to hear how you're reminding yourself of truth in
your own life!
