Tres Chic Thanksgiving

I can not begin to express how excited I am that Thanksgiving is this week! It's both mine and Morgan's  favorite holiday. It's all about family, food (Oh Lord, the stuffing) and appreciating all that God has given us. Unfortunately with the holiday season here, that also means that I will be frantically racing to complete projects and check off to-do's before I can enjoy the festivities. Sometimes we get so caught up in tasks that we miss the beauty of the occasion all together.

Time feels like it's moving faster. This week let's make a conscious effort to slow down and adjust what is important to us. We all know it's a time of thanksgiving, but what are action items?

1. Instead of sending the generic "Happy Thanksgiving!" text message the morning of or forwarding the same email thread to your contacts (no one likes those), why don't you go old fashion and write out thank you cards to those you care about? This will be much more touching and unexpected. An act like this will remind others what the holiday is all about as well!

2. Serve! During the holiday season, there is an abundance of needs. In the past, my family has served Thanksgiving lunch at a homeless shelter downtown and those are some of my most memorable Thanksgivings. Bringing joy to others will inherently bring you joy. If you are looking for a way that you can give your time or skills to others, check out Watermark's Holiday Service Opportunities here! Get a group together, your family, friends and community, and spend time making someone else's day better.

Neither of those suggestions are limited to the holiday season but if you don't make a habit of loving others well, then this is a good time to start. When someone asks you why you're doing it, this is a great opportunity to share Christ's love and what he has done for you.
Tis the season!

"And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him."

-Colossians 3:15-17
