We can't help but dream of warmer weather with these endless days of rain. Although it's a blessing, what we'd give for some sunny weather! Dreaming of warmer weather has us thinking about summer fashion which naturally means bathing suits.
There is nothing stranger than going to a pool party with your friends from church and feeling "uncomfortable" in your bikini. But then this prompts the question, "shouldn't I feel this way around anyone?" 1 Timothy 2:9-10 says, "Likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire, but with what is proper for women who profess godliness-with good works." Now we can read this literally (which doesn't make a whole lot of sense for us today) or we can look for the heart behind this passage. Modesty isn't about the "what" but about the "why" behind your clothing choices. It's the message you convey to others through your appearance. As women of God, we are called to be known for our good works more than our outward appearance.
Even though two-pieces are accepted by our culture and it sounds medieval to shun them, do one-pieces need to be such an appalling concept? We are determined to prove otherwise! We both own two-pieces but agree that the deeper we dive into our faith, the more difficult it is to ignore how modesty is lacking in our culture and the opportunity we have to exemplify it. As believers, we should be concerned about modesty because the Bible is, and we should be less concerned about fitting in with the world. Our prayer isn't that we will start a revolution for banning bikinis, but that we would start the conversation and cause women to think of their motives behind wearing something. If you want to jump on the one-piece train, below are options for adorable swimsuits for this summer season! We think they're just as stylish as the bikinis we're used to. What do you think about them?

This TED talk, "The Evolution of the Bikini", also provides good food for thought. This is an interesting topic to have as an open discussion so feel free to leave your comments below to exchange thoughts!
